Atrium Innovation Limited is a UK-based, high technology development business that holds a portfolio of patented technologies in the field of electrostatics. A unique and versatile science, electrostatics has many potential applications in the world today from pharmaceuticals to pest control, medical devices and sanitisation. The company’s core business is a highly efficient electrostatic dispersion method commercialised in our Cleanaer product. Atrium has also highlighted many growth areas and has a dedicated research & development team working on our product pipeline.
Our History The development of our premium spray technology started in 2001 in a garage in Oxford. The concept arose from initial pioneering work at the University of Oxford and the John Radcliffe Hospital on enhancing the efficacy of a generic asthma compound in asthmatics. Our technology is underpinned by an electrostatic engine which drives the dispersal of Liquid-ions through an electrospray. Each droplet is extracted individually from the bulk liquid and dispersed at a rate of tens of thousands per second. Further trials also proved the technology’s ability to spray delicate biomolecules like DNA and proteins. “Solo”, the first commercial product was released in 2003.
Acquisition by Sumitomo Chemical Ltd In October 2009 Atrium Innovation Ltd was acquired by Sumitomo Chemical Company Ltd. (SCC). Sumitomo Chemical dates back to the "House of Sumitomo," a business with a history spanning more than three centuries.
